- In 1971–1977. First Deputy Minister of Construction of Heavy Industry Enterprises of the Kazakh SSR.
- In 1977–1990. Minister of the Kazakh SSR – Chairman of the State Committee of the Kazakh SSR for Construction, First Deputy Chairman of the State Construction Committee of the Republic, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kazakhstan. The years of work of A. Bektemisov coincided with large-scale capital construction in the Kazakh SSR and its capital, Alma-Ata. With his participation, the following were built: Hotel Kazakhstan, Auezov Drama Theater, TV tower Kok-Tobe.
- In 1990–1992 he was the chairman of the Committee for Construction and Architecture of the Supreme Council of the Republic. He was a member of the Presidium of the Board of the Union of Architects of the Kazakh SSR. A. Bektemisov was elected a deputy of the Supreme Council of the 8th, 9th, 11th, 12th convocations. Member of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Kazakh SSR.
- In 1993-1997 he worked as the head of the Main Financial and Administrative Department, manager of the Department for work with diplomatic missions of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- In the period from 1967 to February 1972 the chairman of the Football Federation of the Kazakh SSR, in 1968 A. Bektemisov was elected a member of the presidium of the USSR Football Federation.
- Awards and titles:
- Two Orders of the «Badge of Honor» (1966, 1971). Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1986). Laureate of the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR (1976). Medal «25 years of the diplomatic service of the Republic of Kazakhstan» (2017).
- Diplomatic rank – 1st Class Advisor.
